Meet Shirley

Shirley is a life coach who teaches Radical Self-Care  for professional Mamas of special needs children so that she and her family can thrive.   Shirley has over 25 years experience serving families and youth and earned a Master of Arts in Psychology in Education with specializations in community counseling and school counseling from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997.  She has worked as a family therapist, counselor, disability student coordinator, researcher, life coach, psychology professor, academic advisor, residential coordinator, and mentor at Indiana University, Carnegie Mellon University, Center for Family Excellence, residential treatment facilities, schools, hospitals, non-profits, and community centers.  Shirley started Possible Mama because she found herself as a professional working Mama with a special needs child.  She realized that juggling a career, the needs of her sweet child, and herself can be quite overwhelming and demanding.  Between work, doctor visits, special diets,  dealing with her Sun’s educational needs and school, and maintaining a household, she found her needs were getting overlooked and creativity stifled. She took a hard look at herself when everything began falling apart. Chores were being neglected.  She stopped interacting with friends.  Her marriage fell apart.  Her Sun barely did anything outside the house.  She began picking up the pieces and realized that taking care of herself MUST be a priority in order to take care of her Sun.  She began to dig deep by meditating daily, regained a sense of peace and faith, nourished her body with a healthy foods and sleep, strengthened her support network,  choose a new career that aligned with her values and got her household in order.  Today, she can happily say both her Sun and her are thriving all because she chose to put her self care needs first.
