Taking Care of Me

Taking Care of Me

For the last three weeks, my Sun has been ill, very ill, to the point of hospitialization. A cold and ear infection turned into pneumonia and dehydration.  I put everything on hold. Business, housework, friends, everything.  My main focus was tending to my Sun’s needs.  As days turned into weeks,  I realized that even though my Sun was sick, I needed to preserve my energy so I could be of benefit to him.  Frankly, at times I was running on…

My Sun

My Sun

This is my Isaiah. He is 10 years old now. Never knew how one person could be so impactful in my life. Just a decade ago, my world was all about me. What dance class I was going to attend, what I needed to do to prepare for the next Nyahbhinghi gathering, making money, my man, and my fiends. Over the last decade I have learned to truly prioritize and focus on what is truly important. Now instead of preparing…

5 Things to Plan When You are Gone

5 Things to Plan When You are Gone

It may sound morose, however death is a natural part of life that we all must face. For parents of special needs children, the thought of our impending death is a very scary thought. What will happen to my dependent child is a thought that has literally kept me up late at night and brought me to tears on more than one account. I finally decided to take charge and do something about it.  I just attended a workshop from…

Want to change your life? Change your thoughts!!!!!

Want to change your life? Change your thoughts!!!!!

Ever wonder why no matter how hard you try you find yourself in the same situation? The people may be different or a different environment however you are virtually in the same boat as before. Dearest Divine,  this is because you have unconsciously accepted some core beliefs that no longer serve you.  Some popular core beliefs that some women hold are, “I am not worthy.” “I am not enough.” “I am dumb.” “I am fat.” “Good things never happen to me.” “I…

Give yourself a Break TODAY!

Give yourself a Break TODAY!

With all of the giving in motherhood, it is important to take time to replenish the Spirit. To focus on yourself and give yourself…

KEEPING THE PEACE WITH THE EX FOR THE CHILDREN

KEEPING THE PEACE WITH THE EX FOR THE CHILDREN

It gives me great peace when I am out of conflict, including with my EX, and I treasure my peace more than momentary flairs of anger or self righteousness, even though 99% of the responsibility of raising my Sun is on my shoulders.  I love it when my Sun has BOTH parents to count on and look forward to for guidance.  I keep in mind when my Sun is incessantly calling for his Father in his absence, if I were…

Parenthood: A Path to Enlightenment

Parenthood: A Path to Enlightenment

I was sure not prepared for motherhood, but I grew into my job.  Especially with the challenges of raising an African Special Needs boy, as a single Mama.  Sometimes the odds seem stacked against us.  African, Male, Autism, Epilepsy, Poor Coordination, Problems with Speech, Absent Father….need I say more.  With this world so cruel at times, some times I literally fear for my Sun’s life. With the highly publicized death of a special needs man being gunned down by the…

My Sadhana

My Sadhana

It is a wet and cold Friday night in Bloomington Indiana.  Thanksgiving break has just started for my Sun, and for the first time in a while, everything feels perfect.  I am listening to calm, relaxing music from Pandora.  The slow melodic flute intertwines so nicely with the slow steady pitter patter of rain outside. As I embrace the change from fall to Winter, I embrace the totality of my life with a gleeful heart and remind myself that no…
